Forms

Capture shaped around how information already arrives.

A form is where information enters a business. Most forms are built for the software’s convenience. A good one is built around how the information already arrives: the order a customer thinks in, the way a crew actually reports from a site.

Forms exist because capture is where friction and error begin. A form that fights the person creates gaps, re-keying, and the follow-up call to collect what should have arrived the first time.

What changes when it is assembled

Capture shaped to the work means information arrives complete and lands where it belongs, once. The form stops being another inbox to empty and starts feeding the other materials directly.

The test of a form is whether anyone dreads it. When it asks only what the work needs, in the order the work offers it, the dread goes and the data improves at the same time.

Field note

An intake form that asked for everything except the one thing every job actually needed.
